22 months.
I spent a month working with the Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund (HvSMF) in Uganda, visiting 51 schools across the eastern region of Lake Victoria as they reopened after the Covid closures. Uganda had the longest school shutdown in the world, lasting 22 months. HvSMF is a charity that funds various school initiatives, from building classrooms and dormitories to providing teaching resources and offering opportunities for children who might not otherwise be able to attend school. I documented the reopening process, focusing on how the funding was being used and identifying the next areas of need.
